Wines for Feasting
Our wine team's picks to go with this year's feast!
NV Lelarge-Pugeot 'Tradition' Brut Nature
PINOT MEUNIER/PINOT NOIR/CHARDONNAY, Champagne, France. The entry level cuvee from the very special Champagne house Lelarge-Pugeot is Pinot Meunier dominant, an uncommon trait for non-vintage champage and generally for sparkling wines of theis quality. The wine is rather luxiurious, with a soft and tinny bead, a deep base vintage and a rich golden hue. Save some for the bird.$89.00NV Zanasi 'Tradizione'
LAMBRUSCO DI SORBARA, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Fragrant and racy "red" sparkling wine from Central Italy. Truth be told, the wine presents as a rosé due to the gentle pigmentation of the di Sorbara Lambrusco variety. The fresh, crispy cherry flavors make this a wonderful aperitif wine before a satisfying meal. It's got everything Bubbles Heads are looking for: acidity, fruit, minerality and a fuzzy, bubbly mouthfeel.$36.002024 Story of Soil 'Donnachadh Vineyard'
RIESLING, Santa Rita Hills. Fruit from Santa Rita Hills grown as close to the ocean as Riesling gets. Known for minimal intervention and exceptional vineyard expression, winemaker Jessica Gasca crafts this dry Riesling to highlight the unique maritime terror of its Santa Barbara County site. Lime zest, crackling flint, marzipan. This wine is a shining example of how California does Riesling. Perfect for your salads and sides.$41.002022 Simon Bize 'Les Perrières'
CHARDONNAY, Burgundy, France. Elegant and bright, made from choice fruit on the northwestern hillside of Savigny, a very cool site. This wine is a sophisticated squeeze of lemon for your rich and satisfying meal. Chalky minerality, fleshy fruit flavors and bracing acidity.$99.002023 Vincent Dureuil-Janthial 'Borgogne Coteaux Bourguignons'
PINOT NOIR/GAMAY, Rully, France. De-stemming and cold maceration give this Burgundy wine a Beaujolais flair, despite it being made of just 10% Gamay. Zippy cherry flavors run around the palate aided by lively acid. Amazing fruit grown in a highly regarded single parcel in Rully called Mordeloup. Delicious!$59.002024 Jean Foillard 'Beaujolais-Villages'
GAMAY, Beaujolais, France. This is the wine for your bird. One of three of Beaujolais' most notable producers grows this gamay on high elevation parcels in and around Villié-Morgon, where many of the most famous Gamay wines are born each year. Jean Foillard's vines reach deep into the granite to insipre highly concentrated fruit that delivers a bright and exciting French Countryside bouquet. Think if it as cranberry sauce that makes you more conversational.$34.002019 Corison
CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Napa Valley. Cathy Corison is the last of the old guard. This Cabernet Sauvignon is made in the style we love here at Burdell. It's nervy, direct, shoulderly--not bulky. Bold flavors that aren't cloying. Oak that is fully integrated. Fruit that expresses freshness and concentration at the same time. Kronos vineyard can be seen on the valley floor from the crest of Spring Mountain, twinkling in the growing season while owls swoop in and out of the vines. It's a magical place that makes magical wines.$131.002016 A. Rafanelli
ZINFANDEL, Dry Creek Valley. Classic California red wine from The Before Times. We consider Zinfandel to be the heart and soul of the California red wine tradition, and the Rafanelli family do it better than anyone else. Cassis, plums and smoke come together to essence your meal with an unimitable flavor. This wine can tackle your whooe thanksgiving spread with ease.$99.002023 Vincent Dancer 'Les Perrières'
PINOT NOIR/GAMAY, Pommard, France. This is an expressive and open take on Pommard from just south of Clos des Epeneaux. Serious terroir that anyone can understand. Whole cluster fermentation followed by 18 months of elevage provide warmth and depth, signatures of Dancer's style.$141.00
