River Trip A - Great Swamp only
TRIP A - Great Swamp only ~1 hour This is a beautiful, quiet, down and back paddle from the put-in at White Bridge Road. This is the only paddle that remains within the confines of the Great Swamp. It’s also the only paddle that allows young children (under 12 or so) to accompany an adult in the boat. Tandems are suggested for 6 to 12 yrs. Singles can actually work better for 3 to 5 year olds depending on size and strength. It’s also acceptable and common for 2 adults to take out a tandem or canoe and put a child in the middle with or without a paddle. There are no major hazards on this section. Everything is easily paddled over or around. However, more weight in the boat leads to greater chance of dragging bottom. Pros - You only need one car as you’ll not need to shuttle. This also leaves a bit more flexibility in timing, shorter or longer. Best for family fun. Cons - You’ll be missing out on some river action and alternative scenery.$25.00+River Trip B - Passaic River short
TRIP B - Passaic River (short) ~1 hour NO SHUTTLE This is a beautiful trip on a flat, wide, slow moving river. You’ll be surprised how remote most of this section seems. This is not a technically challenging section of river. As such, kids over 12 who are capable and responsible paddlers are allowed. There are some blown down trees, but you should be able to get around or through all of them pretty easily and without getting out of the boat. This section starts at the put-in on White Bridge Road. You’ll first paddle under the White Bridge Road bridge and after 40 minutes to an hour, you’ll pull out just before the Basking Ridge Road bridge on the right side of the river. Pros - This is the core river trip and you’ll feel like you're on an adventure. 40 to 60 minutes on the river and you’ll feel accomplished. Cons - The pull-out at the end isn't terribly convenient, and you'll need to coordinate your own shuttling back from this end point.$25.00+River Trip C - Passaic River full
TRIP C - Passaic River full ~1.5 hours SHUTTLE AVAILABLE This is an extended version of Trip B and is really worth the price of admission. If you’ve never been through the Millington Gorge on the water, it’s not to be missed. The only reason to choose Trip B instead is for those who are not feeling confident about their paddling skills. However if you’ve made it this far without incident, you’ll be fine. There is one blown down tree just past the Basking Ridge Road bridge. You’ll need to carry over this on the left hand side (where the water is shallow and has less of a flow) - other blow downs can be paddled around. Pros - Full trip of beautiful scenery and fun flowing river down stream. Boats can simply be left on the grass at the end, and you can walk down the street to Oakflower. Cons - May be annoying to navigate the one blown down tree early on. Certain sections are shallow and bottoms may scrape, but you shouldn't get stuck.$25.00+River Trip D - Great Swamp + River full
TRIP D - Great Swamp and Full River ~2.5 hours SHUTTLE AVAILABLE This trip combines a full hour exploring the Great Swamp (down and back) along with the ~1.5 hour trip down the Passaic to the pull-out near Oakflower. Get a full day of autumn exploration in one of the most scenic areas around!$40.00+River Trip - GIFT CARD ADD-ON
