Wine + Small Bites Menu: Haarmeyer ‘Cresci’ Chenin Blanc, Borden Ranch, Lodi 2024 The grapes come from the Palmero Family Vineyard, planted in 1981 by Gerald Cresci on a rocky swale in the Borden Ranch sub AVA of Lodi. The soils are pink granite and quartz and the fruit is organically farmed. After picking, the fruit undergoes a short foot stomping before being whole cluster pressed in a super old-school screw press. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and no additions of nutrients, acids, etc. in an old puncheon where it undergoes full malolactic on the gross lees, but with no lees stirring. The wine is then aged for 55 weeks in the puncheon before being racked to tank for bottling. Expect notes of citrus, green apple, quince, chamomile, and wet stone with vibrant acidity and a textured mineral finish. Haarmeyer Riesling, Wirz Vineyard 2022 The Wirz Vineyard was planted by Almaden in 1963, back when big wineries were still planting vines on their own roots and furrow irrigation. Miraculously, the vineyard remains intact thanks to the work of the Wirz family and their dedication to traditional farming practices. The site sits just east of the San Andreas Fault with limestone and decomposed granite soils. The vines are tiny own-rooted bush vines yielding approximately one ton per acre. The wine is direct pressed, fermented with native yeasts, aged on gross lees for 14 months, and bottled without fining or filtration. The result is a Riesling with notes of lime zest, green pear, white peach, jasmine, and crushed stone with a long mineral driven finish. Haarmeyer ‘Victor Weiser’ Gemischter Satz, Mokelumne Glen Vineyard 2024 The Koth family has farmed Mokelumne Glen Vineyard since the early 1960s and today cultivates an impressive collection of German and Austrian varieties. Their “German Collection” contains 52 unique varieties, and this wine represents Haarmeyer’s take on a true American Gemischter Satz with all fruit harvested and fermented together. The wine undergoes native yeast fermentation, malolactic fermentation in neutral oak, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Look for aromas and flavors of citrus blossom, apricot, orchard fruit, fresh herbs, and subtle spice with lively acidity and layered complexity. Haarmeyer ‘Blau-Blau’ Blaufränkisch, Mokelumne Glen Vineyard, Lodi 2024 Originally hailing from Austria and the Czech Republic, Blaufränkisch is a dark skinned variety that thrives in Lodi’s Mokelumne Glen Vineyard. The wine undergoes native fermentation with gentle extraction before finishing malolactic fermentation in neutral puncheons. Expect aromas of cassis, black cherry, and steeped tea leaves alongside flavors of blackberry and spice, supported by soft tannins and bright, crunchy acidity. Haarmeyer Nebbiolo, Heringer Estate, Clarksburg 2023 The Heringer family has a long history of farming in Clarksburg and has become a leader in organic farming in the region. Haarmeyer’s Nebbiolo is intentionally picked early to retain natural acidity and tannin, resulting in one of the lightest and most varietally expressive examples of Nebbiolo in California. The wine undergoes partial carbonic fermentation before aging in neutral oak and bottling without fining or filtration. Notes of wild strawberry, rose petal, cherry, orange peel, and dried herbs lead into an elegant finish framed by fine tannins and fresh acidity. Small bites coming soon..
