    • Quilt Cabernet 2023

For Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon, the winemaking process started by picking fruit at precisely the right moment. Often this meant waiting until ripeness--determined both by testing sugar levels as well as by assessing other aspects of phenological readiness--had reached an ideal point. Once in the cellar, we kept lots separated by vineyard. While the wine underwent extended maceration, we re-evaluated the progress of each lot before moving the wine to small French oak barrels (70% new oak, 30% seasoned) where it underwent a secondary fermentation. Our final blend came about after numerous blind tastings. TASTING NOTES Rich and satisfying with chocolate brownie, yogurt, molasses, brown sugar and rhubarb notes prese

    • Chateau Haut Brion Grand Vin 1995

The oldest winery of the world renowned "First Growth" Bordeaux's (1530). One of Thomas Jeffersons favorite wines, this wine is regarded as one of the top 5 wines in the world. Chateau Haut-Brion the most iconic wine from the Medoc and Bordeaux in general, and has one of the longest and most interesting histories of any Bordeaux vineyard. The property derives its name from an ancient Celtic term “Briga.” Loosely translated, this means a rise or mound in the land. Historical archives show that Johanna Faure grew vines at Haut Mont near what we now know of as Haut-Brion as far back as September 6, 1426. The vines were planted to produce wine for a local chapel that was founded in Bordeaux by the Menuts Monks to remember the recently deceased Monk, Johan d’Artiguemale.

Château Mouton Rothschild, with its storied history and dynamic evolution, has deep ties to the Rothschild banking family. Although once part of the esteemed Segur estate alongside Calon, Phelan, Lafite, and Latour, Mouton was classified as a second growth in 1855.

The 2012 Richebourg Grand Cru comes from the family?s 0.60-hectare parcel whose oldest vines are approaching retirement. It has a very refined, elegant bouquet that is actually more like a Romanee-Saint-Vivant at the moment. There are lovely scents of orange-blossom and quince emerging with time. The palate is well-balanced with a rounded, harmonious entry. It is silky smooth at the moment with a fine thread of acidity. It remains sedate, distant even but very sophisticated and the oak is very well assimilated towards the finish. Excellent.

    • Dom. de Montille 'Les Taillepieds' Volnay 1er Cru 2011

The lieu-dit known as "Les Taillepieds" takes its name from its steep hill and the small, sharp gravel on which winegrowers "slashed their feet" while digging into the earth. It faces east and south on a mid-slope composed of light brown clay and lots of tiny gravel stones. Volnay "Les Taillepieds" has little to envy the great wines of the Côte de Nuits : it is a model of aromatic purity, of precision and of structural exactness. The nose is highly defined, precise, pure, often floral and always mineral and spicy. The mouthfeel is robust with a tannic frame that is strict, dense and minerally.

Dark, inward and intense, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a towering effort that will thrill collectors for many years to come. It arrives in waves, first black fruits evolving to red, then sage and earthy minerals, followed by brown spice and, finally, hints of tobacco. Youthfully dense, velvety and in no hurry to unfurl the complex web of fruit, minerals and tannins found within, this instead leaves you guessing at what’s to come. That said, there’s perfect symmetry here, along with the combination of structure and primary intensity to guarantee many years of positive maturation. Hints of licorice, currant and baker’s chocolate linger long. This is simply gorgeous.
